First Indian to build a plane was from Jamnagar!

Well, it may be true, according to Mumbai-based Harshida Desai.

Mumbai-based Harshida Desai is daughter of Mansukhlal Parekh of Jamnagar. She had written recently to Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), for correcting the records and set the name of her father, Mansukhlal Parekh of Jamnagar as pioneer of aviation in India. According to her, Mr. Parkeh build his own plane in 1930.

JRD Tata received a B License for commercial flying, this was India's first commercial flying licence, in 1934. Mansukhlal Parekh also passed the B License test along with JRD Tata. The B licence will allow anyone to fly across India. JRD Tata was 23 then, while Parekh was only 19. This new was also reported in the local news paper of Karachi, 'The Sind Observer', dated January 10, 1934.

About Mr. Parekh, he was born in a family of jewellers in Jamnagar in 1911, though he dropped from school after fourth standard and yet taught himself English to read the American monthly 'Popular Science'. Inspired by Wright brothers, Mr. Parekh decided to built a plane in India, he imported engine and propeller from US and build a small plane, a British pilot was requested to test the plane, the plane did made first sortie at 200 ft. height.

Jam Digvijaysinhji (Jamnagar ruler) was impressed and was sent to flight training in Karachi.

Ms. Desai had submitted all required documents to DGCA, supporting her statement.

Dental Dean - Going finally

Autocratic dean of the dental college, Dr. Anil Bhatt is finally transferred.

Lot of agitation against him was raged in the city, students rebelled against the dean.

One more staffer, HoD Dr. Nayanaben Patel was also transferred to Ahmedabad.

Dwarka Oceanarium Updates

One more news regarding the Dwarka Oceanarium was release to press yesterday.

Since June 2010, Reliance Industries and Govt. of Gujarat has started working on this project on PPP (Public private partnership) bases, this project is developed by Gujarat Ecology commission and Marine National Park.

The project is aimed to create new generation oceanarium with a central tunnel with 360 degree view of ocean life.

Further to this, this facility will have touch pool, 4D theatre, gaming zone, Mall, gift shop and various hotels and concert hall.

Shivratri arrests - Police vs Public

Hindu groups across Jamnagar are in fighting mood, BJP is now openly supporting the groups and various religious communities to fight against police for misusing the arms act in the recent Shivratri Shobha Yatra.

Come Monday and the groups will again hit the streets against the police, earlier police booked 37 persons under the Arms Act for displaying swords during a Maha shivratri procession.

Many local bodies have already submitted representations district Collector and SP, to withdraw or close the case.

Many local leaders agreed that this act of police was unwanted and can stir in a peaceful Jamnagar.

Mysterious blasts rocked Jamnagar

Since Thursday morning, mysterious blasts around Jamnagar are a cause of worry among the citizens.

Those who live in relatively higher floors are experiencing vibrations in the building.

Many citizens have enquired and local disaster management team, local administration etc are working on this.

Air force is also asked if they are contributing in this noise :)

Foreign Job Scandal - Remand for 10 days

Court have approved 10 days remand for the main accused in the foreign job scandal that rocked Dwarka.

Two youth from Dwarka lost 6Lakh, they found out about this duping only a day before their flight to Singapore.

Mumbai agents promised them fair job in Singapore.

One of the accused Gaurang is in police custody, others are absconding

RIL - Unit under planned shutdown

Reliance Industries Ltd's Jamnagar Unit announced the planned shutdown of one of the crude unit at Jamnagar complex.

One of the CDU stream is shut down for planned maintenance since 10th Feb. This unit will undergo inspection and maintenance jobs in Reliance Unit .

Some productivity measures will also be taken during this shutdown, one of the unit will have its distillation catalyst replaced.

The stream will complete its maintenance and resume operations by early march.

Rajat Jayanti Mahotsav - Inaugurated by Modi

Earlier yesterday, Narendra Modi Inaugurated the Rajat Jayanti Mahotsav of Kadava Patel at Sidsar and called upon the Kadva Patels to demolish the evil practice of female foeticide.

He said, "I want to tell a bitter truth to the Kadva Patels. Unjha, which is the seat of their deity Ma Umiya, ranks the lowest in sex ratio in Gujarat. This isn't any natural phenomenon, but result of the evil practice of female foeticide", Modi also talked of plans to sponsor pregnant women and children from poor families in their villages.

This facility is equipped with a big disaster management team, this team includes 40 swimmers, as there is a river nearby. Venue boasts of in total 600 chefs and 450 helpers to cook and serve at 15 dinning halls. A helicopter ride to shower petals on Umiya Mandir will cost Rs 5,500 per person.

Kadva Patel is the most economically superior cast in Saurashtra, with a huge NRI presence and locals with lots of land occupation, land prices in Saurashtra are sky rocketing due to new industries and Indian inflation.

Coldest day of the winter - 5.5 Degree

On Thursday mercury further dropped to 5.5 degree in Jamnagar, this was the coldest day in the season.

Farmers are already seeing possible crop loss for the season, Cotton is the most affected crop by this chilling winter.

Met. is predicting cold to persist for next 3-4 days.
