International Bird Watcher Conference

Jamnagar is gearing for International Bird Watcher's Conference.

Starting 25th Nov. Jamnagar administration is organising many events for the conference,

Two new bird watching tower are now ready for the bird watchers, Khijadiya - a 600 Acre wetland near the salty plains serves around 250 species of migratory birds, this wetland has speciality of salt and fresh water reservoirs. Gujarat Tourism Department has organised this conference to attract visitors across the globe.

More then 700 visitors will be participating in the conference, around 100 visitors around the world and around 450 national bird watching enthusiast from across the India will be travelling Jamnagar.

Hotels in city and highway are booked by administration, exhibition schedules and information will be presented in three languages, 100 different sign boards in various languages are also prepared, translation facilities will also be made available.

All major roads of Jamnagar city are patched and cleaned in view of the conference (and CM's presence), Town hall is upgraded with estimate cost of 2.5L , looking at activities of the Gujarat Tourism Board, Khijadiya and Pirotan will be developed as a major places of travel within Gujarat.

Gujarat Tourism - Ignoring Gujarati Tourists

Jamnagar is known for its marine national park, and this area has potential to draw many tourist across the world, Including Gujaratis from Gujarat.

However recent experiences from a Tourism Fair at Surat revealed that Gujarat Tourism is not looking forward to attract Gujaratis, When asked about Pirotan Island visit, officials asked them to visit Jamnagar and arrange the trip from there. The fact is one needs a permission from forest / marine department clearance before visiting either Pirotan, Narara or any other island under the Marine National Park.

It is very shamefull that Gujarat Tourism Development authorities also published most of the flyers in english , perhaps reused the distribution flyers that was meant for oversea customers.

Jamnagar - RIL Safe from MIG CRASH

 

Reliance Industries Ltd ( RIL ) said the MIG crash that occurred near Jamnagar has not affected at company's refinery there.  as you might be aware that a MIG-29 crashed on Pirotan island, ( near jamnagar ). though pilots managed to ejected from plane RIL is upgrading its project and  additional 29 million tonnes (5.8 MMT/D ) capacity is added to refinery at a site adjacent to its existing plant (6.6 MMT/D) at Jamnagar. this is a 6 billion $ project which on standlone basis would be the sixth largest project at a single location in the world, will make the largest concentration of refining capacity at Jamnagar.

Appeal to citizens, keep the city clean.

Since childhood, I have seen jamnagar as it is today, same dust, crippled infrastructure, no access to public utility, very tough public transport and above all the only visiting place in city, Lakhota palace and lake in totally dismal condition.

Have left the city since last 13 years or so, every time I visit Jamnagar, I always had one hope, this time the road from railway station to city will at least be pothole free, Lakhota will be clean and the walls around it will be mended, all the near by gardens will have some signs of nature, those gardens won't be a open gambling place. Like new buildings of
State and city administration, i could see at least cleaned up and un-fractured public utility places.

And every time, my expectations managed to exceed ground reality, the ground reality is same in every "growing" city in India.

Where are the roads that I always dreamed, where is the clean city, where are dustbins, where are cleaners that I am sure JMC is showing in their annual accounts, where is the supposedly infrastructure expected by a municipal corporation of a city that has world largest grass root refinery, the city that contributes around 25-30% share in petroleum produce of this country, the city that has brass parts industries, defense, natural reservoirs, exotic beaches like Pirotan and narara.

Alas, it is a dream, and the reality check is far away from the dream, city administration does not care, nor any politicians, administrative officials or any citizen of this city, Yes, we all are equally responsible for the state of this city.

We citizens, clean our house, throw the trash outside, hoping those whom we pay tax will collect it for us, they will keep this city as clean and shining as we do with our house, we park our vehicles wherever we like, we ride them as if a child is learning how to play with a remote control car, we do push our kids to clean the house, but we don't teach them to keep the garbage in dustbin when we are out, we don't care to follow traffic, stay organized and of course maintain public cleanliness.

And we blame administration for not doing enough, if they are not doing enough, we all are equally responsible.

Global Bird Watchers Conference Ends

"Excellent" was the term used by many dignitaries and bird watcher enthusiast who gathered for the first time in Jamnagar for the Global bird watchers conference 2010.

Three day long Global Bird Watchers Conference ended on Friday with Narara hiking and Pirotan excursion, foreigners were excited to see diversified flora and fauna of the Gujarat state and especially of Jamnagar. Bird watchers from far west and Europe were thrilled to see that excellent marine biology exists just beside a well maintained aquatic bird reserve Khijadia.
Khijadia was main attraction of the conference, around 400 visitors spotted more then 180 species of birds in Khijadia, many writers and bloggers commented appreciation for this wonderful place.
Conference also displayed many research papers and documents from many bird experts.
CM Narendra Modi, Tourism Minister Jai Narayan Vyas and Jam Sahib Shri ShatruShalyaji promised to declare early winter period a Bird Watching season from next year onwards to boost eco tourism.

eco-tourism site - Khijadia Bird Sanctuary - Jamnagar

 In a bid to boost eco-tourism in the Gujarat State, the State has mooted a proposal to set up interpretation centres at new wildlife and bird sanctuaries across the State. It has also started upgrading the existing centres and other facilities for prospective tourists at other eco-tourism sites.

• The new eco-tourism sites identified are:
• Khijadia Bird Sanctuary (Jamnagar),
• Koteshwar-Naraya Sarovar (Kutch),
• Thol Bird Sanctuary (Gandhinagar),
• Ajamgadh-Keliya Dam - (Valsad district)
• Wilson Hills - (Valsad district)
• Pariej Wetland (Kheda),
• Shoolpaneshwar Wildlife Sanctuary (Narmada),
• Kevadia (Vadodara)
• Pirotan Island (Jamnagar).

Chief Conservator of Forest (Social Forestry) Rajeeva  said that  Rs 3.25 crore project proposal is submitted to the State Tourism Department to set up interpretation centres at these sites.

 

The centres will provide detailed information to tourists about wildlife, birds, reptiles and bio-diversity of these sites through various mediums such as audio-visual, posters, films, three-dimensional models of birds/animals and pamphlets. These centres will also guide tourists to visit other places of interest.

Other facilities, such as drinking water, sanitation, reception centre and accommodation will be created for prospective tourists. While twin huts will be erected to provide accommodation, specially-designed tents will be set up for students who visit these places for environment education.

At the world-famous Nal Sarovar Bird Sanctuary, the existing centre will be revamped and expanded at a cost of Rs 40 lakh and four rest huts will be set up. Relevant information about the type and original destination of domestic as well as migratory birds visiting the sanctuary will be provided to tourists through this centre.

 

The installation of three observation towers at strategic points around the bird sanctuary was proposed to help tourists watch birds. These towers will also be useful to researchers who often visit the famous sanctuary to study birds. The department has also decided to purchase binoculars.

The center at Velavadar Sanctuary in Bhavnagar will also be upgraded with an estimated cost of Rs 5 lakh. A proposed 30-bed dormitory is to be constructed at the sanctuary which is famous for its black bucks.

 

There are also plans to totally revamp the centre at the famous Sasan-Gir wildlife sanctuary, with parking area near Devalia already undergoing construction. Similarly, centres and other facilities like accommodation, sanitation and solar lights are in the process of being developed at the Wadhwana Wetland (Vadodara) and Jambugodha Wildlife Sanctuary (the Panchmahals).

CSMRI Found New Vegetation Near Vadinar

Jamnagar coastline is biggest coastline in India in terms of length and hence has the only Marine National Park in the country,

Bhavnagar based CSMRI recently found around 93 new species of florals near Vadinar, this area is in close proximity to Pirotan and Narara Island in Jamnagar.

Of these 93 species around 13 are found first time rest 80 species are found elsewhere in the world but not near Jamnagar. These species are variety in sea-weeds.

Onether Mig Crash Near Jamnagar

On Tuesday, November 21  A MiG-29 fighter of the crashed near the airbase in Jamnagar .

 

The pilot, Flight Lt Krishna Kant, ejected to safety.  "Barring some minor injuries, the pilot is safe and he is being taken to the IAF hospital for treatment," an official source said.

The crash occurred at around 7.45 pm (IST) in the vicinity of Sarmat village soon after the jet had taken off for a routine night sortie.

This was the third MiG-29 that crashed this year. The IAF has lost a total of five jets since January.  This was also the third crash this year at Jamnagar involving Russian-made fighter jets. On June 8, a twin-seat trainer version of the MiG-29 with two pilots had crashed on the uninhabited Pirotan island while on a routine sortie. Both pilots had ejected to safety.

On January 17, a MiG-21 crashed during target firing practice at Jamnagar. The pilot ejected to safety.

MIG 29 Crash Near Jamnagar

A MiG-29 trainer aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed 30 km north of Jamnagar into the sea, near Pirotan island, where the Marine National Park is situated, at 12.10 pm on Thursday. 

Authority are checking whether or not there was damage to the island and to marine life.

The pilots, Wing Commander A Nautiyal and Squadron Leader NK Mahal, ejected safely and were rescued. Both pilots, according to sources in Jamnagar cantonment, were admitted to Air Force hospital.

Official sources in the IAF said the aircraft was on a routine training mission from Bhuj Air Base and was returning to Jamnagar .

The sources said that no individual was injured or killed as a result of crash and an

inquiry had been ordered.

The sources said that immediately after the incident, firebrigade personnel of Jamnagar Municipal Corporati on (JMC), the Coast Guard, IAF and Naval staff were dispatched to the spot for rescue operations.

Jamngar - Marine National Park to become hot tourist spot

Narara Bet - A marine National park near Jamnagar is home to diverse
aquatic species and hence is a major attraction of local and foreign
tourist.

Species here includes Octopus, coral, shells, algae plants, live oyster,
prawns and crabs. The water near Narara and Pirotan is shallow which is
the most suitable for the tourist to explore the park and look for
Aquatic species in the India's Only preserved National Marine Park near
Jamnagar.

The sea of Gujarat is around 1600 KM, longest for a state in India. And
Jamnagar has around 220 KM of longest sea-shore in whole Gujarat. The
low tide marine national park makes Jamnagar an interesting place for
Aquatic Species lovers. In other parts of world to explore this kind of
species you need to go to underwater.

Main attraction of the park is species like starfish, jellyfish. Some
times rare octopus and dolphins are seen as well.

This is one of the 42 island in Arabian Sea which has park covered with
Coral Reefs, Mangrove swamps which provide excellent Indian Aquatic
Species view.

Many other life forms are seen like algae, coral, fishes, prawns,
turtles, sea snakes, sea birds etc.

Under a conservation project for eco-diversity, Gujarat State Forest dept will get some coral from Lakshadweep, and re-plantation them in Jamnagar Marine National Park

These Acropora Corals are on the brink of extinction, earlier it was found in abundance now are a rare sight in Pirotan / Narara.

Two more coral species, Corites and Feviya, will also be replanted. Jamnagar's Marine National park is of the few parks in world where travellers can see coral in shallow water also.

This Project funded by World bank will have lifecycle of 5 years.

10 Dead -25 Injured in Boat Capsizing

At least 10 People were killed when a boat carrying around 50 people capsized and sank near Bedi. The accident occur ed at around 11.00 AM.
All the passengers were on their way to Pir Dargah (Khwaja Khizer Alaihisalaam) located on Pirotan Island, which is around 23 KM away from Bedi Port. Local fisherman started the rescue work which was later taken up by Jamnagar Fire Brigade and Gujarat Maritime Board.

Around 25 other were injured and are under treatment at Jamnagar's Guru Gobind Singh (Irwin) Hospital.
