RIL backs off Jamnagar GI Tagging Plans

Jamnagar News First reported the GI Tag initiative, Almost a year back we found that Jamnagar Bandhani may get Jamnagar GEO Tagging.

Now taking some firm steps, Chennai-based Geographical Indication (GI) Registry has decided to clean off its old files and already granted brand new GI certificates for high value brands. These brands includes names like 'Tirupati Ladu', 'Banarasi Sarees' and 'Goan Feni'.

Jamnagar is not behind either, India's most valued company Reliance Industries had also requested for registeration of GI Tag for its five products

• Jamnagar Petrol
• Jamnagar Fuel
• Jamnagar LPG
• Jamnagar Diesel
• Krishra Godavari Gas
  

These are the products that are produced from RIL's Jamnagar refinery and Krishna Godavari basin. Later, RIL withdrew its applications, many says that this is because RIL has plans to have the KG GAS used in Lyondellbasell Reliance Refinery.

Bandhani May Get GI Tag

There are some traditional fabrics which can stand apart even in today's hip-hop cultured dressing.

Perhaps the first name which comes in mind of a Gujarati lady will be "Bandhani".

With the name comes bright color, fine quality and a rich history of handmade Sarees, Jamnagar is famous for Tie-Die Bandhani, which is done by hands. this is a special art mastered by a few, the art is followed by generations and new vibrant colors and designs are added time by time.

Bandhani is not just a Saree, in parts of Kutch, Jamnagar and Rajasthan it is used as a turban or dupatta, modern ladies wear dress from Bandhani as its comfortable in hot season.

To save this exotic product, now Indian Textile ministry wants to brand the item with a location tag. Textile Ministry is working on a long list of 5,000 such items across India.

Govt. is working on a GI petition. If thats gets through, Bandhani makers will get a new life. As today there are many oppertunists who sell bogus Bandhani in the name of real one.

Someone just asked me about specialty of my place.

I named bandhani as the one.

here is a brief description of that.

Bandhani work is a kind of dyeing practiced mainly in the states of Gujarat ( some place in Rajasthan too ) , India.


Sometimes, it is also referred as Bandhani art or Bandhani art work. The term "bandhani" derives its name from a Hindi word Bandhan which means Bond / or tying up.

Bandhani work involves tying and dyeing of pieces of cotton or silk cloth. No artificial cloths / fabric is used tin Bandhani. The main colours used in Bandhani are yellow, red, green and black. Bandhani work, after the processing is over, results into a variety of symbols including, dots, squares, waves and strips. Jamnagar , a prime city in Gujarat (India) is very famous for bandhani work, infact even today also bandhani is printed using ancient block printing and hand made colors in Jamnagar ,
