Coral Reef Monitoring in Jamnagar by Scientists

Jamnagar is proud to host research gathering on impact on coral reef, Scientists from various research institutions across the country and outside India will be involved in investigating a biophysical monitoring of the coral reefs around India's only Marine National Park (MNP) at Jamnagar.

Aim of the monitoring is multifold, analysis will know the present status of the coral reef ecosystem by assessing the health of corals, coral reef and marine fauna and flora, major environmental issues around Jamnagar like salination, sedimentation, algal coverage will be measured.

The monitoring of coral reefs in Jamnagar is carried out involving about 60 technical staff of MNP, scientists and research fellow from GEER Foundation, scientists from the Zoological Survey of India, from the Bombay Natural History Society (BHNS), researchers from M S University, scientists from Space Application Centre, Ahmedabad, and members of the Wildlife Trust of India participated in the exercise.

This is to note that environment minister Jairam Ramesh recently visited Jamnagar.
